Have a new laptop with Vista OS and an old Canon BJC 70 printer. Printer
uses an LPT port. Anyway feasible to use this printer on the Vista laptop?

Thanks

Does the laptop have a parallel post? If not, then the answer would be
"No," obviously.

there are parallel to usb adaptors, like this

just have to make sure they work with Vista

...... and that they're supported by the printer's drivers, as well.

In a addition to parallel to usb adaptors (which often fail to work)
there are PC Card parallel ports, though quite a bit more expensive.
See one example here

That's useful information. Good find!

i used a parallel port to usb adapter from radioshack, cost around $30+.
using vith new vista home premiun dell desktop.
the printer is an HP inkjet 895cse from 1999!

the cable from radioshack came with software that vista didn't require.
vista had drivers for printer too. i simply pluged cable into printer (power
off on printer & computer), & plugged usb end into computer. powered on;
found new hardware; followed prompts. no problem!

thank you, len kiesling

You could have read it here ! <g>

You can rely on them working whereas USB to parallel often does not,
but there is a price penalty and it could be cheaper to buy a new
printer!
