Vista Wireless internet connection works sometimes

I've recently bought a Dell Dimension and have a speedtouch wireless modem
router. Internet connection through ethernet works fine. The wireless
internet connection sometimes works, most of the times it cannot connect to
the internet. When the wireless internet connection doesn't function it
always thinks it is connected to a public network.

Any suggestions?

Thank you for the answer, however I do not understand what happens.

Done following experiments: changed the encryption mode from WPA to WEP 64
bit, changed the settings in Vista and voila wireless internet connection
functions. Restart of the PC with the router active and internet connection
still functions. Then a reset of the router results in loss of internet
connection. It is however still possible to connect to the web interface of
the router. Changed the encryption from WEP 64 to WEP 128 and my internet
connection returns.

What am I missing here?
