vista windows defender realtime protection

S

sally

I see everyone with vista defender says to go to tool>options and turn on
real time protection for Vista windows defender. I dont have that listed
when I go there. Do I have the wrong version and I never see anything that
defender blocks. It says I have version 1.1.1505.0 and defintion version
1.24.5054.0. This looks like the same old defender I had when I had my
windows XP computer. Any help?

Hello Sally,

If you want to see WD Real Time Protection in action, try the EICAR the test
file...

From Joe Faulhaber [MSFT]:

For those of you who want to know what we're talking about, the EICAR group
came up with a harmless file detected by antivirus products so you can safely
verify the product's working. If you haven't seen Windows Defender detect
something, visit http://eicar.org, download the 68 byte file eicar.com.txt,
and copy it to your startup folder. Your AV solution (that you should be
running in addition to Windows Defender) will also pick it up."

I hope this post is helpful.

Let us know how it works ºut.
