Vista & Verbatim hard drive backup puzzle

After using Windows backup onto a Verbatim hard drive I cannot access any
files although Windows claims that the backups are successful.

When I browse the "J" drive, which is the Verbatim hard drive, I can see all
the folders that have been backed up but when opening the various folders
for the files I get the message "No items match your search".

I did actually return the hard drive to Verbatim Australia for a checkup and
they assured me that they had no trouble accessing and reading all of my
files that they tried. They suggested that it must be a "programming fault"
on my PC and sent the drive back to me.

On the drive's return from Oz I did a fresh Windows Backup with the same
faulty result of "No items match your search". Besides Windows Backup I have
used one other backup program but that too returned the same fault.

My dispuzzlementation requested please.

Thanks, Roy

Sounds like an issue with Windows Search rather that with the physical hard
drive, or the particular backup program.

You could try adjusting your search settings eg via

Control Panel > Indexing Options

& / or

Control Panel > Folder Options > Search (tab)

eg adding the 'J' drive to the indexed folders list, or checking that the
particular extension of the files you expect to find is included in the
search.
