Vista backup

Hello and please forgive the crosspost:

I'm running Vista Home Premium with all updates including SP1. I backup my
files weekly to an external hard drive using the Windows backup utility that
is a part of Vista. As I understand it, the backup is supposed to back up
all new or changed files and does not back up program files.

My external hard drive now has more used space than my hard drive. I must
have some setting wrong or something weird is going on. It seems that tha
used space on the external drive where the backups are stored should be less
than the used space on the hard drive since the hard drive has all files
plus the OS plus the program files.

Suggestions greatfully appreciated.

I usually do full backups with system state. Can you post your
settings?

Automatic file backup-weekly-backing up all files recommended except TV
shows.
My C drive, which is to be backed up with new or changed files is 101 gig
with 50 gig free.
My backup drive-external- is 111 gig with 21 gig free so that means about 90
gig resides on the external drive but only 50 gig including the OS and
program files is on the C Drive.

My settings are the default settings except for TV shows which I don't have.

"Windows will scan your computer for new and updated files and add them to
your backup based on the schedule you set."

I hope I answered your question regarding settings.

Thx

Harmon
