hi,

I have been attempting to install windows vista ultimate for about 24 hours
straight. I have tryed everything I can think of to do this, and am getting
blue screen of death in the middle of instalation.

I have successfully installed vista clean, but I have a upgrade license and
cant register it that way.

everything apears fine while im going from xp pro, all updates done and
current drivers, untill it gets to the portion of the upgrade where it is
"gathering" files. then it stops for a hour or so on 22-24% and goes to blue
screen with codes I should have written down the 10 failed installs I tried.
help would be greately apretiated.

Run the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor to check for any possible
incompatibilities.

You could try a Cold Boot (reset the machine) > Start the computer, when the
Windows Boot Manager is displayed, select Windows Setup press F8 on your
keyboard and setup should continue.

If you are upgrading/clean install, as noted, disable any external or USB
based devices you might have attached to the computer. Also, disable any
Security software before launching setup and ensure that you meet the
minimum system requirements for Windows Vista.

Turn Off Serial Key Devices: Windows Vista does not support Serial Key
devices. If you are upgrading and you currently use Serial Keys with an
alternative input device, you must turn off Serial Keys and install another
input option before the upgrade. To turn off Serial Keys in Windows XP, open
Accessibility Options in Control Panel. For more information, go to the
Microsoft Accessibility website (http://www.microsoft.com/enable).

Hi Bill,

If you follow the instructions in my post 'Clean Install Windows Vista Using
Upgrade Media' in the newsgroup 'Windows Vista Installation and Setup',
(dated 9/21/2007), you should be able to solve your problem. Note that
because you are using an upgrade version you have to, in effect, install
Vista twice. Please also note that you might have to obtain drivers for your
storage system first.
