Vista updated and I lost my sound

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium and there were three updates
today from Microsoft and the end result is I lost my sound.

I contacted my computer manufacturer and after almost two hours with
them, they couldn't find the problem and their solution was to do a
system restore.

I've looked for a newer driver for my sound, thinking that might fix the
problem, but found nothing newer than what I had.

Does anyone here have a better solution than a system restore?

Thanks,
K Clark

After the update I found they had restored the Vista default of "no record".
I was able to fix it by right clicking the speaker icon in system tray and
clicking on recording devices. But I'm sure tech had you try all that?
Good luck.
PS: If tech support tells you to turn system restore off and on (as they did
with me on another issue) don't listen to them as you will lose all your
restore points.
