Vista Premium and Sound Problems

I upgraded my Gateway 5260 desktop that apparently is "Vista Premium" ready
to Vista Home Premium (original OS was XP Media Center) and everything seems
to work fine except there was no sound! The little sound icon in the task
bar said there was no audio playback device installed! I installed the
Realtek ac'97 and HD Audio driver for Vista and nothing still! Then I
re-installed the original Sigmatel driver for Intel Audio Studio 2.0 for
Windows XP from the gateway website and the OS finally "saw" the sound app
and the icon in the task bar became normal with volume control. BUT, though
i have sound now, it is very choppy and squeaky!! Can someone help on what i
should do now please? thanks!

Look for the Vista sound card drivers and install them. May be on Gateway,
or on Intel for the board or sound that's on the board.

Gateway doesnt have updated drivers for Vista even though they put a "Vista
Ready" sticker on my PC! Intel said to contact Gateway!! LOL. Customer
service at its best!

Vista Ready just means the hardware meets minimum system requirements.
There is no guarantee that drivers are or will be available for the devices.
When you see something like "Vista is running on this computer" then you can
begin to believe that it is a good Vista machine.

Thanks. It does sound deceiving however especially when they provide a FREE
upgrade to Vista with the PC. Anyways, i figured the problem out - it
involved going through Intel and downloading their software for audio.
