Windows Vista Vista update issue

Ok two things really. A friends laptop.


Vista telling me updates are available however I cannot access the list?
The Icon is present but when I click on it, list will not appear...

Second problem in conjunction with first

All icons in control panel have gone!
Looked this on on MS site they suggest update the service pack to 2..

I can't see what updates are being updated or need to be installed to do this

Any suggestions guys?

Oh nearly forgot, To add to the above.

How ethe ell you close task manager down when opened? There is no X just a window with borders.
Never mind done it. Bit daft using taskmanager to close task manager down

Not sure about the vista bit could be a number of issues there...

Scanning with Malwarebytes now been going 15mins still nothing hmmm

Managed to get a download of SP2 direct from MS so installing now

Nothing came up on either MalwareBytes or Avast
