Vista Ultamate Slow to Boot up on a loaded QUAD PC

Hello,

I just bought an Intel QUAD core computer with 4G of 800Mhz ram, and the
best video card, Using SATA and all the best stuff. I am also a computer
engineer, so everything is up to date, BIOS, and all Vista Updates.

I put Windows Vista on it, but the issue is that it is SO slow come up. I
get stuck at the Circle and "Please Wait" is displayed for about 2 minutes.

Even my wife who is used to using junky computers mentioned how it was slow.
I gave Vista as much hardware as humanly possible, and it still acts up.

Is there a way I could run BootVis or is there another analysis tool to show
what the big hold up is? It is sorta embarrasing to tell people I have a new
computer, only to have someone sit there stairing at a spinning circle.

It depends what Anti-virus you are using; a lot of things. Norton,, etc slows
it down.
Avast doesn't.

It is a brand new computer, so it will be indexing the files for ?(how long
is a piece of string!)
Your CPUs will be working at 100% for a while.

Right-click on the TaskBar and bring up Task Manager, and see what is going
on.

You have event logs, performance monitors; you are an engineer! You should
know your way around comps

I hate Windows Defender, as it slowed down Startup on XP computers when
people downloaded it from microsoft.

And I turn it off on Vista.

Also, go into Run>msconfig> and have a look at what starts at startup!

hope it helps

Actually, it is ONLY during boot. After it gets into windows everything is
fine. No issues in control panel, I also took out everything I didnt need in
startup and MSCONFIG. Is there a BOOTVIS type program for Vista? I have an
intel board, Seagate HD, NVidea Video card, Kingston Ram, everything is
standard equipement. No errors in event log, I score high on all the
performance, like close to 5 for everything. I also ran both Symantec and
Avast Home Edition. I am also running the 32 bit edition, I was not ready to
open any cans of worms yet for the 64 bit edition.

After booting task manager runs at 1%, even when I am doing other tasks it
doesnt come out over 1-2%. (besides something like encoding video).

Maybe I will hope SP1 helps with this issue.

Thanks,

did you ever get this fixed, as I've installed vista ultamate 64 on my quad
6700, intel board with all windows and board updates and gigs of 667 ram, and
it tales it 3.5 min. for post to log screen. tried with and with out video
drivers, with and with out antivirus, advanced performance on HHD(76gig
raptor) indexing turned of, but even if I had everything running, this should
not be, my dual core 6300 booted ultimate 32bit in 45 sec. please let me
know if you found an answer, Thanks

Have you checked the system logs to see what Vista thinks is the problem?

in the Event Viewer
applications and services logs
microsoft
windows
diagnostics-performance
filter on event IDs 100-199 they are for boot performance items

entries here are for programs that seemed to take too long to start up.

you were right about the Event Viewer, there are atleast 20 diff (or more)
programs with errors there, the question is, what to do with it, thanks for
any help.

I will check my logs again tonight. I thought that the bios update would
surely fix the problem, however it did not.
