Down loading updates

I have a new 64bit comp that I plan to use for gaming.
Details
Vista Home Ult.
Intel Quad cor C2Q-Q6600 2.40 GHz
Nvidia nForce 781i SLI
2 Ge-Force 8800 SLI
I've got the mach up and running and am attempting to download
up-dates. The win up-date screen shows "downloading 14 updates" (0KB
total, 0% complete) and it just sits there???????
Any Ideas??????????
Would greatly appreciate the help, I'm just begining with Vista
