Vista to Xp Pro---

R

Richard Oliver

My ASUS laptop was downgraded from Vista (by the supplier) to Win XP Pro
and I now have no sound device !
My Google search has shown that this seems to be a known problem but as
yet I have not been able to find the answer .
All the necessary drivers have meen loaded from the ASUS site.
This was an OEM "downgrade" by the dealer and I only have a Vista
recovery disk.
Unless someone can point me to the answerIi believe my only choice is
to return the machine to the dealer for sorting out.
Should I have been supplied with an XP Pro disk of some sort?
Your kind assistance please, Richard

A known problem with no answer?

The answer is to install the proper driver for the sound device in Windows
XP.

Doesn't seem like it - especially if you look in device manager and have any
unknown devices or devices with issues...

What does "by the dealer" mean? Are they providing you support for this
downgrade?

More than likely - you should do this anyway. If they did the work for you
originally and left you with less than you had before - they need to make it
right.

That's between you and your 'dealer', but in most cases, you must be able to
restore the computer to the state from which you purchased it (when
purchased new.)

Its a new PC, return it.
Be aware unless Asus supplies this specific Model with the option to have
winxp - as apposed to the supplier installing winxp, it may never work
properly.
The origonal manufacturer is obliged to supply a means of restoring your PC,
in this case Asus have - to Vista
You should have sourced a PC that the manufacturer supplied winxp on, and
not some third party

The ASUS laptop is Model F5R series and was supposed to have come with
XP Pro installed. They said that they could do the change as the XP
model was out of stock.
Will be taking it back and get it sorted as I really like the machine.
Thank you for the incredible help and will keep you posted, Richard
