Reactivating XP Pro after reinstall: microsoft support refuses it.

Hi All,
Due to a sudden nvidia nforce audio driver failing, i had to reinstall XP
Pro edition (non OEM) Full Edition (meaning not an upgrade) on the same
hardware configuration.
As expected it asked for an activation key since auto-dial support didn't
work.
I called up Microsoft support India to activate, and they refused, stating
that XP is not supported anymore and i have to turn in the disk to my dealer
and buy Vista from the dealer.
Naturally i refused. For one, i have a valid license: second it is just a
reinstall.
Third i don't want Vista (atleast until SP3 is released).
How do i get microsoft support to release an activation code (i forgot about
the wba.* backup) for the exact same hardware and same machine?

Phone them up again. You most likely dealt with someone less than competent
on the phone.

Call them back and ask to be activated. Explain the situation. If necessary
ask for a supervisor.

Xp is still supported and will be for a good few years yet.

I had a similar problemt and also called microsoft. However i got a postiive
response and tech guy ran me through and gave me my A-key.

I think mata is right, call again and pray you don't get that person again
:p!.

Note: For australia, they will probably ask you why you are re-activating.
And maybe come other q's. Good luck
