Vista down to XP Pro

This query has been posted on other ngs but so far no luck. I got a GW
computer with an Intel D33 mb [Vista pre-installed on a 500 gb serial
drive]. Vista isn't ready for prime time yet and I wish to do an XP Pro
clean install. Problem is I've got the serial drive and the bios is
configured to RAID (I do have the IDE simulation option in my BIOS but
changing to this leads to the same results) although I have a non-raid
system which leads to what you read below.

I built a floppy driver disk for SATA drivers that has IaStor.sys,
iaahci.cat, iaahci.inf, iastor.cat, IaStor.sys, and TxTSETUP.OEM. During the
XP install all goes well and I press F6 for the SATA drivers. XP install
reads the disk and proceeds to install more files. When I got to the point
what the screen says at the bottom, Window will not start (or something to
that effect) setup halts with a blue screen and error codes 0x0000007B, and
0XF78D2524.

Can anybody be of help? Gateway refuses to help because they down's like to
downgrade OSs says there tech rep! They tell me I'm on my own and to hunt
for the right drivers myself and will refuse any/all assistance for help
[cease IE connection].

You visited Intel site a checked on drivers there? (sure its not D33 chipset
and not mb)
Although since GW may have tweaked the HW for their own purposes the Intel
drivers may also be a no go

I misspoke. It's G33 and I have on my system a set of the "drivers" which
are supposed to cover Windows XP,Pro,Vista-32...

Maybe I'll just say the hell with it. This certainly isn't worth the
aggravation.

You need to get the SATA drivers for the chipset on your motherboard, IF XP
doesn't support yours natively. In many cases, extra SATA drivers are not
required, and if you loaded custom drivers, you may have confused the OS
install. You need to start with identifying the motherboard and the
chipset.

Question: If your system has one drive, why are you setting up RAID?

Are you sure, however, that XP drivers are available for your system? If
they aren't, you will have real problems getting key components to work.
You need to have the XP drivers, like the motherboard drivers, on hand
before starting.

The RAID screen (Ctrl-I) shows up I guess (and I'm on shaky ground here)
because when I snooped in my BIOS I checked the screen for drive
configuration and there were two choices: 1)ATA/IDE MODE <native> (all
grayed out - unchangeable of course) 2) CONGIG SATA AS <RAID> (that's what
it was and I made no changes, however when I experimentally changed the
choice to IDE my SATA drive failed to show up, RAID shows my drive, AHCI my
drive doesn't show. so - -

ATI/IDE <Native>
CONFIG SATA AS <RAID>

In my original post I think I stated that Vista Home Prem can pre-installed.
I soon ditched that because I was using Vista/Ult (Upg) on my last system
and I could install that on my current system with no problem ((no special
driver's disk needed) - I have an imaging program) with no problems, in
other words all the drivers, albeit generic were on the Vista/Ult disk.
That's part of the reason(s) I'm perplexed. Vista's can read my drive
configuration, Ult & Prem - no problems, XP can't. That's why I'm crying. I
can't seem to locate the XP drivers I want. Maybe I'll have to wait till XP
SP3 is released!!!!!!!!!!

I think I'll ditch my plans for a XP Pro install. Getting to flustered.

SP3 won't address that problem, because the drivers won't come from MS and
won't be in SP3. They will come from the manufacturer. If they don't feel
there's a need to go to the expense of creating XP drivers for systems sold
with Vista - and it *is* expensive - you will not get them anywhere else.
I think I'll ditch my plans for a XP Pro install. Getting to flustered.

If you need hardware that has to support XP, it's necessary to establish
that prior to purchase. Many vendors who sell to corporations are aware
that Vista cannot be used in some cases, and if they want to make the sale,
they have to provide the driver support. Dell and Lenovo both do this, as
do others. Look at the optional OS available - if XP isn't a listed
option, move on.
