Vista thrashing right after BOOT

Don't quite a Vista problem. I have 4 Vistas now, other people have reported
more than that. Nobody seem to have what you are saying.

You may give more detail to find out.

I seached google and many people have the same problem...

It's not a problem, and it doesn't need a solution. Just ignore the disk
light flashing and get on with your work.*

Disk activity (at any time, not just after booting) can be due to lots of
things, including:

1/ the indexing service, which makes your searches faster, and is thus a
GOOD THING

2/ superfetch, which speculatively preloads files into RAM that it "expects"
you to need (based on your usage patterns so far), which greatly increases
response times and is thus a GOOD THING

3/ the disk defragger starting up, which prevents your disks from becoming
fragmented, and is thus a GOOD THING

4/ Vista reading the start-up performance data and shuffling the files
around on your hard disk in order to make your system boot more quickly,
which is thus a GOOD THING

5/ your security software (antivirus, anti-malware) updating itself and
scanning some files, which goes without saying is a GOOD THING

In other words, it's just doing what sophisticated OSs of all varieties do.

For all the activities in 1/ to 4/ above, the activity happens at the lowest
CPU priority and lowest I/O priority, and thus backs off immediately you
need the CPU or I/O for yourself.

*I've read that there is a rare and intransigent bug that affects both Vista
and XP, which causes disk thrashing after startup, and significantly affects
performance. Note, this is quite different from the usual Vista
post-startup thrash, which shouldn't affect performance.

If your performance really is being badly affected (and it's not just
psychological due to hearing the disk thrash) you may be suffering from that
bug. I believe the bug has something to do with Microsoft (or Windows?)
Update - you may wish to do some online research if you do have that
problem.

How would you know? With that football helmut your mom makes you wear, you
wouldn't hear the hard drive thrashing. If you read the bloody URL that the
OP supplied, you'd maybe have part of the answer. The other possibility is
that Vista is just BUSY allowing some spambot to send out its spam before
allowing him to use his computer.

Cheers.

You could disable Windows Search in services if you don't need indexing on.

My disk activity slows after about 90secs with just doing this.

Also your AV might be doing a boot time scan...which you may be able to
disable.

Possibly Windows Defender scanning...you could try tweaking the settings
there.

You seem to have a proclivity for football helmets. You're wearing one
while surfing the web right? Is that because you're afraid of falling
out of your high chair.
Maybe you should have your mummy strap you in so you don't hurt yourself
any more. I mean it's obvious you've suffered some kind of near fatal
bodily injury most probably to your pointy head right? Is that why you
wear a football helmet all the time and go to the psychiatrist all the
time? We figured you get a discount rate for advertising with your sig
in this ng right?
I guess the head injury also explains why you're rather stupid right?

How much RAM do you have? If you have less than 1 gb then a RAM
upgrade will almost certainly result in faster bootup times. And if
your computer is infested with any Norton/Symantec products then you
would probably benefit from going to at least 2 gb of RAM.

Good luck
