Hello, and help please! This is the 2nd time I've tried to post my problem and
cannot seem to find hide nor tail of it,so here it goes again. I lost the
picture on the upper right corner of the start menu.It started when I changed
pictures in user accounts. The change took place in all the expected places
except on the menu. And last but not least, I also lost the icons that lay
directly beneath said picture, the ones that only showed when their program
was selected.Even if you can't help my problem, I'd appreciate knowing I at
least got my message out...so if you would'nt mind.Thanks.

Hey JBI--

I don't have a pic in the upper rt. hand of my start menu. I think it's
because I have the maximum # of icons selected to show and selected large
icons.

Why not check by right clicking start menu>properties>start menu
tab>customize># of programs to display (lessen it if a lot are displayed)
and/or click restore to default.

Many of these will apply to Vista from an XP list>I don't see any for the
pic and name.

Or you could try system restore to a point before the pic left the Start
menu. Also try running SFC.

How to Run SFC:

Type "cmd" into the Search box above the Start Button>and when cmd comes up
at the top of the Start menu>right click cmd and click "run as Admin" and
when the cmd prompt comes up at the cmd prompt type "sfc /scannow" no quotes
and let it run. This may fix things quite a bit. It replaces corrupt files
with intact ones, if you're not familiar with it.

Good luck,

Personalization is on the start menu, but where are you finding "Change the
Picture under
Start Menu"?

Typo! My bad, I apologize.

Should have been...

Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > "Change the Picture on the
Start Menu"

In the Control Panel, it's the last link under the 'Taskbar and Start Menu'
section.

I would like to thank both Chad Harris and Kristalbawl for responding to my
Post, and though neither of you supplied me with the answer, you helped me to
keep digging.
I called my local expert(PC salesman)about the possibility of a "system
restore" doing any good. His opinion was that that method was not what I
needed.I then asked him about "running SFC".He believed that that method may
very well have possibilities. The only problem with that is that I don't call
myself Ignorant for nothing, and felt that that exercise might prove beyond my
meager expertise. So did my local expert! He said the disappearance of
"things" is not uncommon, and some of them even show up again. With Vista being
a new program,we figured if it didn't correct itself maybe Microsoft would!
And lo and behold...after 4 weeks and without fanfare, my Start Menu picture
and the "ghost icons" that haunt the programs on the right side of the menu
appeared; much like the cat we have all heard about, gone!,then back. Trouble
is I kind of expect my menu picture and icons to go astray again. But I can
tell you I am darn glad to have this 1st class feature "back on board",even
if it may prove temporary.
