Vista says my DVD writers isn't a writer

I just noticed I can't send or burn anything to my SAMSUNG SH-s183L
DVD/CD bruner from Vista.

Vista doesn't think it's a writeable device even though windows dvd
maker will write to it. If I go to photo gallery and try to burn to cd
I get NO writeable CD or DVD . WTF?

It also doesn't seem to know what blank writable media is.

Other than that it seems to work fine.

any ideas ?

Offhand and just an idea: Remove the hardware from devices and reboot? Vista
will re-detect it, perhaps correctly?

But you're not the only one having Vista issues with this drive:

A quick search of the Internet and Samsung's site hasn't otherwise turned
up too much. Someone reported that by reverting to XP, updating the DVD
burner's bios firmware to the latest then upgrading to Vista he got it to
work:

Otherwise, I'd check with Samsung and inform them. They might issue some
sort of patch/driver or an update for the DVD burner's bios so that it works
immediately with Vista.

In case anyone cares. I seem to have fixed this by REMOVING Daemon
tools.

It seems the vista version of DT's isn't really compatible
