Vista & SATA: what's the latest?

Q

Qu0ll

I am looking to build a new machine using an Adaptec 2820SA SATA II RAID
controller that will be running Vista. Adaptec say that this controller has
a Vista-compatible driver so I believe it all should work but I have heard
rumours that Vista and SATA don't play well together.

What has been your experience with Vista and SATA? Am I avoiding the
problems by using a proprietary SATA RAID controller with a Vista driver?

all new computers have sata... the problems you have read are specific ones
for some controlers+drivers

make sure the ones you will use are ok.. and there is nothing to worry
about...

Just be aware that you will most likely need to supply that driver
early in the Vista install. The install DVD probably will not have
it yet.

No problems whatsoever with VISTA and SATA here, and I've never heard such a
rumour myself either.

You must not read much in this newsgroup. =)

This has got to be about the 20th time I am reading about it....

No problems here with Vista ultimate in a Gigabyte machine with onboard ( motherboard )
Sata controller and two WD hard drives.

If I recall right, the original problems were with certain newer Intel
Mobos, when they were running a RAID level drive instead of single drives. I
can't remember if the Nforce based boards had the same issue or not. I run a
nforce board with single drives, the raid 0 drive I have doesn't have vista
installed on it.

You should know pretty quick if you can get the install to work or not.

I installed Vista Ulitmate on a Dell XPS Gen 2 with a SATA drive without any
problems. That's not to say your problem shouldn't exist, just that Vista
'plays well" with SATA here.
