Vista resets user profiles

Hi can anyone tell me why Vista randomly resets my user profile? What I mean
is that I log onto my machine, and use it for a number of weeks have it
setup with shortcuts on desktop etc and favorites etc. Then I logon and it
refreshes it back as if it was first time I logged on. If I look under
c:\Users, I only have my current profile. The new profile has over written
the old one.

Any ideas?

Test the hard drive and test the memory.
