Vista RC2 Lockups

Well its finally given me the s#$ts. Since 6pm (its now 8:18pm) this evening
I have had to restart this PC a grand total of 17 times due to programs not
responding, Vista couldnt/wouldnt recover from the lockups. I can no longer
access anything in the DVD or CDROM I have been trying to install Adobe and
Nero from CD and everytime I close the Drive door the PC locks up, I have
tried to watch a DVD and the same thing happens. I am going to do a complete
clean reinstall tomorrow when I dont feel like throwing the PC through the
window, if it dont work I will go back to XP until Microsoft gets it right in
a couple of years.

Sounds to me like Vista is incorrectly identifying your drive. I'd try
uninstalling the DVD/CD drivers and rebooting to force Vista to reinstall it
and take it from there.

Been there done that at least 5-6 times. Changed IDE cables. Changed slave
to master and vica-versa Moved CDROM onto the same cable as the H/D. Checked
they work under XP no problems. They just dont want to work under Vista. I
cannot install the M/board drivers that came with the M/B, Vista insists on
keeping its own drivers. Obviously its something to do with hardware
incompatability but where do you start/ Its not like I have the funds to
keep changing hardware until I hit on a compatable configuration for Vista.
Is there a list somewhere that tells me what hardware is or isnt compatable
with Vista?
