Vista RC2 & Defender Update

S

Stuart

I've installed the latest update for Windows Defender (which I don't even
use) because the nag icon tells me to.
I've installed in about fifteen times now and the damnable thing is still
nagging at me.

How do I tell it to stop being stupid?

There may be an issue with the update. Please reply with your Vista edition
information (x86 or x64, version, build, and the kb article number or
definition number for the update). Research is underway on this issue.

I am experiencing it on XP Pro x64. It is definitions update 1.14.1922.8.
It appears that Windows Defender x64 is up to date with 1.14.1922.7 and that
the .8 update shouldn't be targeted for x64.

I have tried the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, removal and
reinstallation of WD, system restore, reseting the defitions file back to
1.0.0.0 and updating again but those steps do not resolve the issue.

I doubt that a fix on the client end is possible. I suspect that the fix is
serverside and MS will have to find and fix the problem on their end.
