I find browsing very slow (56k modem line).

I am thinking of switching off the phishing filter to speed things up.

I assume that this will cause no real security problem, providing I am
not doing any business on-line.

Is my assumption correct.

Thanks

Turning off the phishing filter "may help" but realise this; dialup
is rapidly going the way of the Dodo, ADSL is the only cure -
provided it is available in your area.

in some markets, like chicago ... cable speeds cannot be beat. RCN has a
package that is 20Mb/2Mb ... You cant get that with ADSL

Do you use McAfee or Norton? Both "work with" Vista but have problems.

On Vista, they seem to slow things down, such as email, opening some
programs, and even how long it takes to restart the computer,

You might consider replacing them with free Avast or AVG which do not seem
to have this problem.

you CAN get those speeds in Australia with Phone Line, NOT cable, as long as
ADSL 2 is set up in the Telco's Exchange
