Can someone please tell me why I can't get Outlook 2007 to connect --- I've
heard that it has something to do with Norton? Any suggestions?

Download the file for AVG Anti-virus, uninstall Norton. Install AVG, update
AVG.
If that doesn't solve your problem, are you certain that you have your
accounts set up with the correct POP server address, correct SMTP server
address, username and password?

It may be the e-mail scanning function in Norton AV. Try turning that off.

There are an awful lot of email problems described on the Windows Mail
group that are not solved by disabling Norton AV email scanning but
do disappear when it is fully uninstalled. It's worth a try.

Yes, but he can always uninstall Norton if simply turning off e-mail
scanning doesn't resolve the issue. Uninstalling Norton is major surgery;
I'm only suggesting he lance the boil. If that doesn't work, he can always
open up the body cavity afterward.

He may be one of those rare people who is not having any other problems with
this product or is otherwise satisfied. Maybe he just went out and paid a
lot of money for this, I'm offering him a less expensive option.
Ultimately, he'll probably dump Norton but if this works for him, this will
give him time to adjust and ease out of it, perhaps when his subscription
period is up!:-)

I had the same problem with the same combination. It wasn't Norton that was
the problem. Try deleting the folder
c:\users\(username)\roaming\Microsoft\Protect.

It will regenerate itself when needed. After two months of trying every
other suggestion I could find, this simple solution worked for me.

Hard to tell why. Crystal Ball is out of order . So can you please post the error message that is generated in it's entirety

I actually meant (although didn't state) if disabling didn't work.

Agreed... (although I found uninstalling Norton AV straightforward.)

Okay, no problem.

Since I haven't installed Norton lately, I can't really give good input on
its current uninstall process. I just remember, in previous incarnations,
brain surgery was easier!:-)

As it is with Norton today. To completely eradicate Norton from your system you need to reformat .That is the only way to clean all Symnatec product out of your System
The Norton removal Tool will remove the main parts of integration but that is only a very small part of the installed app.

N360(retail or download) designed for Vista logoed or the designed for Vista logoed retail versions of NIS2007 or NAV2007 are the only choices imo if one desires Symantec. Any prior requires a patch to accomodate Vista's Programs Data and other junction folders and at best have proven to be a challenge.
Oem included versions are even worse, since many of those images for install are pre-RTM and require quite a few live updates.

It would be nice to know the op's version and how purchased(source, oem, retail, download etc).

An most importantly
Imperative if the isp uses SSL(turn off both incoming and outgoing).

What Security are you using? I am running Outlook 2007 on Vista and I haven't
had any problems I have Norton Internet Security.
