Vista On More Then One Computer

ok so i bought windows Vista ultimate and put it on my desktop so i liked it
so i put it on my laptop thinking i could use the same product key on my
laptop and vista is 4xx.xx bucks then after a little it ask to active it then
it say its being used so i call them up and they want me to pay for a new one
you cant use vista on more then one computer if u already bought it?

If you read the small print you'll probably find
you bought a license for one computer.

dont listen to the snorks...just ring them again and tell them you have
changed your motherboard because vista didn't work properly with your old
one...job done they will sctivate it

Right. They will activate on his new computer by giving him a new key. Then
they will invalidate his old key.

Great advice. What use to work under Windows XP no longer works. Sorry.

You cannot legally use *any* Microsoft OS one more than one computer...
but since XP Microsoft takes steps to prevent you from doing so.

are you still sure you like Vista????

For many years now the deal has been - one license for one computer. That
means that you must purchase a new license for every computer that you would
like to install Vista on. The same is true for older Microsoft operating
systems as well, such as Windows XP, Windows 98 SE, Windows 98, and Windows
95.

That's the way MS works. Thankfully it is not the way Linux works.

working on two machines.
For which he will have to buy another copy or another license.

Have they fixed the problem yet where the keys you get don't always work because the installer thinks they're not for that version?

You need to purchase a separate Vista license for each computer on
which you install it.

Just as it has *always* been with *all* Microsoft operating
systems, it's necessary (to be in compliance with both the EULA and U.S.
copyright law http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/17/117.html), if not
technically) to purchase one WinXP license for each computer on which it
is installed. (Consult an attorney versed in copyright law to determine
final applicability in your locale.) The only way in which Vista
licensing differs from that of earlier versions of Windows (up until
WinXP, that is) is that Microsoft has added a copy protection and
anti-theft mechanism, Product Activation, to prevent (or at least make
more difficult) multiple installations using a single license.
