OK;

I am very new to Vista. How do you uninstall/reinstall Media Player 11 in
Vista Ultimate?

I am getting Codec problem in WMP11, so one recommendation was to reinstall
it.

If anyone knows, please let me know.

Thank you

It's not quite the same as uninstall in XP but...

Go to Control panel -> Programs and Features, Select "Turn Windows features
on or off" (on left hand side), Uncheck Win media player, then "OK"

Similar to turn it back on

Hi,

You can't uninstall/reinstall the media player, it part of Vista. The
problem is more likely to be the codec itself rather than the media player,
it may not function correctly under this media player version and require an
update.

What you are describing seems more like a Codec problem than a problem with
WMP11 itself. Can we have a little bit more information? What is the error
you are seeing? Is it a video that will not play? If so, what file
extention is the file you are trying to view?

This information will help us to get a better idea of your situation so we
can help you resolve it.

As with XP the 'uninstall' only removes shortcuts to it. See the message
you get when you try.

I am having the same problem, just did a clean install of windows vista RC2,
build 5744 and everytime I open up windows media player it says it has
stopped responding. I find is completely stupid that you cant do an
uninstall, or at least a reinstall of windows media player. This is the sort
of thing that got them into trouble with I.E., appears they havent learned
their lesson. At any rate, how can I fix, or reinstall windows media player.

Good luck. I have Creative Audigy and sound works fine, WMP11 doesn't play
DVD's though all other audio works fine and online video works fine

Looking at the event viewer I have more information of what is causing the
problem:

Windows Media Player Crash
Code:
Faulting application wmplayer.exe, version 11.0.5744.6324, time stamp
0x45234fea, faulting module mswmdm.dll, version 11.0.5744.6324, time stamp
0x45235887, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x00031e22, process id
0xbe8, application start time 0x01c725b0a98c95c7.

Winamp Crash
Code:
Faulting application winamp.exe, version 5.3.2.1003, time stamp
0x456339e4, faulting module mswmdm.dll, version 11.0.5744.6324, time stamp
0x45235887, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x00031e22, process id
0x73c, application start time 0x01c725b238c19fb8.

I downloaded mswmdm.dll from a 3rd party site. I am trying to overide the
hopefully broken dll, but I cant override it because it is always in use. I
tried safe mode, and even safe mode with command prompt and I tried using DOS
to do a copy but no luck, says access denied. Any help? PS, this dll seems to
be part of the digital rights management, worthless, I don't even want it.
Thanks!

Did you run DOS from a floppy. If you have an XP cd could you try the copy
from Recovery Console. You could see if system file checker will recognize
the module as damaged. sfc /scannow you must be running with
administrator privileges.

It sounds like you are using Vista Business N which, in compliance with the
EU agreement, does not have WMP.
