how do i enable links in mail messages. When I click on them nothing happens?

Have you tried opening them rather than clicking on the link in the preview
pane?

If I copy the link and paste it into my search engine it works but it is just
an unnecessary pain!

I can't really help as I'm using the Windows Live Mail beta which Windows
Mail folks will soon need to move over to. You might want to try it now (you
can uninstall it if you don't like it and you'll have WM back)

I'm not running WM but I think you need to open Tools/Options/Security
and uncheck the setting for 'Block images and HTML content' (or
something like that).

Start | Default Programs | Set your default Programs
Make sure that Windows Mail has all of its defaults.
