Vista Mail Contacts to OE Address Book

Sunny

I have just talked a friend (over the phone) on how to "Export" her Vista
Mail Contacts as A comma separated file.
She is going to dump Vista and install Win XP (and OE).
The file has been saved as an excel file onto a USB Mem Stick

She will be installing Office 2007 etc,
Will OE be able to "Import" the CS File into her "New" OE Address Book ?
(Each mention I have seen describes the CS File as a "text" file)

TIA for any help.

Outlook Express (OE) is a WinXP application and has nothing to do with
Office. Outlook (OL) is an Office application.

You refer to a Comma Separated Value (CSV) file. A CSV file exported from
Windows Mail can be imported into OE's Address Book or OL's Contacts
database, yes.

Thanks, my concern was that the CSV file she exported to a memory stick
was saved with a .XLS file extension.
References I read stated that it should be a .TXT file ?

You should be able to rename it to a CSV file (not a TXT file). If no joy,
export the Contacts again and save as a CSV file this time.

Tip: Before importing anything into Address Book, first export the current
Address Book to a CSV file and examine its formatting. Then compare to the
formatting of the file you wish to import and edit the latter as necessary.

YW. Make sure she knows that such a downgrade will void her warranty and
service contracts (unless the computer came with downgrade rights). Hope
she knows where to get XP-specific drivers, too.

All good, she bought the HP computer from a large retail outlet, and,
after taking it back 4 times with problems (one of which they charged her
$100, saying it was a software problem) they finally replaced her hard
drive.
Their fix seemed to be a complete re-install of Vista each time.
She is now taking it to a local PC builder who will supply and install OEM
WinXP SP3
(I use two "built to my specs" from the same local shop) :)
As for the Large retail store "warranty", insert "joke"
