Vista is slower then XP

Hi All
Vista is a bunch slower when I copy and paste from my storage drive on my pc
to a external usb hard drive.
I copied a folder 4.74 gig from my internal storage drive to my external USB
hard drive.here are the times it took.
XP = 4min.50 sec.
Vista = 6 min.
that's a lot of difference for a system that is supposed to be better.
Any thoughts on why,every body else having this problem or is it just my pc?

I just did a search in this group with the word "slow" and came up with 168
messages. You are not the only one having the problem. Copying, pasting,
deleting, is a major pain using Vista. It is noticeibly slower on my PC and
I have a dual core 2.66 CPU, 10k RPM Hard drive, 2GB RAM.....

Maybe their next release of an OS, the copying will go from Vista= 6 min,
New OS = 12 min, and that PC will probably have a quad core 9 Ghz, 128GB
RAM, Power Boost, High Octane, 128 bit data bus, refrigerated cooling,
etc.....

Oh well

Vista is brand new operating system, Google back when XP or Windows 2000
when they where first released and checkout all the problems associated with
it's release back in the day. Some of the issues with Vista and being "Slow"
is Driver related, as time goes by the New drivers for Vista will be
improved, one has to patient. Rome wasn't built in a Day, neither is Vista.

One commonly overlooked performance tweak is the disk drive caching.
Using Device Manager, Disk Drive category - open the details for each
drive then the Policies (TAB). You'll notice an option box that reads....
"Enable Enhanced Performance".
Be aware of the warning that this should only be used in environment
where a UPS is in use. Using this option, is similar to the Power Protect
facility of DskCache.Exe

What are you like 14? Proper drivers and speed are related, regardless of
the Operating System. Try tweaking the Sata or IDE/PATA drivers
for your motherboard, Try Microsoft default drivers vs. Manufactures Drivers
on XP or Vista and run HDtack ( http://www.majorgeeks.com/HDTach_d672.html )
for benchmarking results and you will see a difference in speed due to
different drivers. It's a know fact.
Why don't you try to contribute something constructive to this forum,
instead of just bashing Vista.

I've been trying to find an authoritative write up on what exactly this
feature does -- The closest I can find is that it may not update the
NTFS journal as rapidly, allowing it to get somewhat out of date and
make recovery substantially harder.

Is there an authoritative reference to what the "Enhanced performance"
checkbox really does?

So does Outlook Express, Thunderbird and many other newsreaders. That
said, he can change one character in his email address and he's
unplonked. Maybe you should try self control or is that too difficult
for you?

No it didn't. It could, on manual command, remove everything from a
newsgroup that someone wrote .. and automatically block someone's original
posts, but I noticed that subsequent replies (not OPs) by a blocked person
would show up. Windows Mail does block subsequent replies.

I think there was something wrong with your OE. In my OE, after you block
somebody, none of there posts appear, as long as their email address remains
the same. This is what 'killfiling' has always meant on usenet. What you
are experiencing with Windows Mail is how it has always been, unless I am
misunderstanding what you are saying.

could always do that with OE. Perhaps when I bothered to try that I was
still using OE5. I'm not sure if I tried and checked with OE6.

So I may still be correct, although admit I may be out-of-date and OE6 on XP

Subsequent replies would still show up. So I stopped bothering. Time flies,
I suppose and I might not have attempted for a couple years or so or more.

No "could" about it. OE has had this feature ever since it was created.
Thunderbird also has it along with many other news readers.

If you knew how to use OE, you would have used a filter to plonk
someone, not the "Block Sender" feature. OR, you could use self control
and just not open a message from someone you're afraid might push one of
your many hot buttons.

The only time I really bothered killfiling was when I was using OE5, so it
must have worked properly then. It is possible that this may have been
broken in some version of OE, and that bug got fixed with an update.
