We have a LAN with a Vista computer and an XP computer. We use an E-TECH ADSL
Ethernet Router and Norton Internet Security. The e-mail and browser work
well, but after an hour or so of leaving the Vista computer on, but not in
use, the Internet connection cuts out. The only solution we have found is to
re-start. Is there another simple solution or is it a useful safety feature?

Update LAN Card drivers
Run Windows Update on Vista
Check the IP settings on each computer
Contact LAN Card/Motherboard Manufacturer
Use Diagnose & Repair function in vista
Check Router settings
Type 'Vista loses internet connection' into google

Those are the first things I'd do before anything else

It sounds to me that the personal FW is blocking traffic after the computer
has not been in use for a while. Some PFW(s) will do that is lockout all
traffic, until you unlock the PFW to allow traffic.

I found the solution myself to my problem, and it is quite simple. Make sure
all users log off after a session, and Vista will then not cut out the
internet connection! BillG
