A freind of mine is trying to install Vista to a P4 motherboard. It isn't
very old. but won't boot from the disc. In the BIOS there isn't a boot
option for a DVD only a CD drive. Could this be why its failing to boot
from the DVD disc? They get the "Press any key to boot from the DVD....",
but when they do press any key, it just carries on booting into Windows XP.
TIA

No, that's not why. The drive is handled the same.

Maybe you have a bad disc? Is this a retail pressed hologram disc or a
DVD+-R?

Hi,

Setting in BIOS is only to set booting drive if you set on CD-ROM it should
work.
Eventually you can check for an BIOS update.

Is this CD or rather DVD with Vista system is original ?
If yes, check it on different drive - perhaps is damaged.

Is the drive in question a DVD read drive? If it's only a CD drive then it
won't read the DVD.

Another thing to try;

If the keyboard is connected by USB look in the BIOS for a setting "USB
Keyboard Support Via" or something like it. It will have two settings "OS"
and "BIOS", try setting it to BIOS.

The boot option pertins to both the CDs and DVDS. Grahamham's advice
regarding the keyboard is valid advice, otherwise the DVD is not bootable -
not all are bootable.

Try installation via Windows (If installed).
