Vista incorrectly sees "Multiple Networks" & can't connect to Inte

I have the same problem with the phantom ghost "unidentified network"
sabotaging my internet connnection. Then I have to disable it and repair the
connection. Everything is fine until I reboot and none of my changes have
stuck. I have a brand new Dell with Vista Ultimate and Trend Micro PC cillin.
I had to reset my computer to factory setting TWICE in the last week to fix
this damn persistent bug. I suspect iTunes is the culprit. Both times it
happened after installing iTunes. I have decided not to reinstall for a
while and so far everything is fine.

I found the unidentified network was a few persistent routes
Drop to a command prompt

type ROUTE PRINT

in normal situations you should only have 1 Persistent route

this is what I had
Persistent Routes:
Network Address Netmask Gateway Address Metric
0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.0.0.120 Default
0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.0.0.254 Default

I simply used ROUTE DELETE 0.0.0.0 10.0.0.120
disabled and enabled my NIC and all went back to normal.

you may need to delete any IPV6 routes also.

You would think that microsoft would have the stupid diagnose tool
actually investigate the routing table!

I have the exact same problem, and now I think of it, it appeared after I
installed I-tunes too. Has anyone had any luck after uninstalling I-tunes?

Great, but it didn't quite work on my machine :(
so i got pissed off with it and disabled the IP4 instead, this made it throw
a little hissy fit, so i ran the magic 'diagnose and repair' which fixed it
finally!
I still have no clues as to why it stuffed up, and would like some answers
when you find out, or better still a patch?
Thanks

Yeah, found Bonjour, removed it, no more problems!. Part of ITunes
installation my son tried.
But why does Bonjour do this to Vista?

Hi

The conflict is here "IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . :
192.168.0.1(Duplicate)"
Check the following, go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center>
Manage network connection.
Right click on connection and choose properties. In the list look for
"Internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" Click on it then click properties.
box opens. In the general tab make sure "Obtain an IP address automatically"
is selected also do this for "Obtain DSN server address automatically"

Note the following from ipconfig "...Autoconfiguration IPv4 Address. . :
169.254.43.78(Preferred)
....IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1(Duplicate)...".

192.168.0.1 is a legitimate address for networking and usually assigned via
DHCP (Usually a router) or manually.

Address 169.254.43.78 is assigned by Windows when an address is not received
via DHCP (or manually assigned) it allows connections within a local network
but none outside the local network (Internet).

Check and verify your TCP/IP properties regarding auto IP assignment and
"Alternate Configutation".
