Vista Home Premium Updates

Clean install of windows vista premium, whne I click on windows update,
either hangs during the checking for new updates, loops back to check for
updates or I get error code 80248007.

My XP has been doing that for some time. Why the heck update has these
issues on some systems is beyond me.
