Vista Home Basic-- taskbar changed from black to GRAY (old windows

I have Window Vista Home Basic on new laptop and encountered that problem
with updated (files corrupting host manager could not be found etc etc). I
fixed that with the suggestions found here but my taskbar which is supposed
to be black/dark grayish is no longer that. The change happened before I
fixed the windows updating problem and I was hoping it would change back when
I updated everything but it has not.

Instead I have a light gray taskbar, pop up windows (like my computer etc)
are very similar to old windows version operating systems. I click the
taskbar properties and it shows what my taskbar should look like and what the
interface once was but it is staying the same old gray ):

what is going on? any suggestions on how to get back the taskbar that goes
with vista?

Right-click on your Desktop, select Personalize, Window Color and
Appearance, then select the Vista Basic theme, apply, OK.
