Vista Fonts Blurred - Several Systems

I am a freelance tech and have had a few clients (about half of my
Vista clients is fact) complain about display issues in Vista. They
all are of the opinion that the fonts appear blurry or fuzzy. I have
adjusted the display settings accordingly and run the clear type tuner
but to no avail. I have also double checked the video card settings
on a couple of clients systems and everything appeared to be in
order. One video card was ATI and the other nVidia.

I've done some searching on the internet to determine if there are any
known issues that could be related but have not found anything
relevant. Has anybody else experienced this behavior and is there a
remedy. One client has mentioned it a few times.

Thanks,
Daniel

(Sorry!)

Is it only the fonts that are blurry, or other things as well?

Since you are a freelance tech, I assume you know to set the resolution in
Vista to the LCD monitor's native resolution.

There doesn't appear to be a 'one fix works for all' when it comes to this
problem. I have fixed systems by using the clear type tuner, trying
different setting combinations with monitor, video cards, screen resolution
settings, etc.

There have been reports that the native resolution of the monitor may not be
exactly what is stated and Vista is more sensitive to this than XP was.
Also, if the video card includes a 'scaling' option, try turning the scaling
off. There are also reports that the new SegoeUI font may be causing some of
these problems with certain video cards.

Best you can do is just start trying different combinations with all of the
settings involved.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

In addition to what Ronnie said, you might also want to check the DPI of
your monitor, right click Desktop > Personalize > under Tasks > click Change
DPI.

Thank you everybody for your thoughts and suggestions although I have
already gone through most of the options offered.

The issue does appear to be related to the fonts. All systems use LCD
monitors set to native resolution. The monitor and video drivers are
up to date and configured properly. DPI settings are all normal.

I have not changed any of the default scaling settings on the video
card but will check that out also. I also have not disabled clear
type as, in my experience with XP, it has always helped with LCD
monitors.

Michaels suggestions look interesting though I am leery of making
those type of registry edits on a clients production machine without
more extensive testing, even though they appear harmless. I may
suggest it as an option to the one client who seems most distressed
with the issue, and in essence, let her be a test bed for the others.
If she does want to proceed along that path, I will keep everybody
posted.

I will continue to monitor this thread so if anybody else has any
ideas...
