Ultimate has everything. Enterprise has everything you would need in a
business environment, but does not have some of the home entertainment
things like Media Center, movie and DVD maker nor does it have parental
controls. For a comparison of the features in each edition see
http://support.teloep.org/vistaver.htm.

Vista Ultimate doesn't have some features that are showing in Vista Server
(a.k.a. Longhorn Server), that's why I said "it doesn't have all the
features, but close enough". If ppl start saying that Vista Ultimate has
EVERYTHING, it's going to start confusing other ppl trying to find out about
the various editions.

As I pointed out in my reply to Mike above, Vista Ultimate is lacking some of
the features of Vista Server (a.k.a. Longhorn Server). Saying Vista Ultimate
has everything is wrong.

Server is a different product. You can't compare on a feature basis Vista
client with Longhorn Server. Just comparing feature between Windows XP and
Windows Server 2003 is pointless as they are different products designed for
different purposes. Vista Ultimate has everything available in Windows
Vista. Yes, the yet to be released server version will have different
features, but Office 2007 also has features not included in Vista - which is
just as pointless a comparison to make.

"Windows Vista Server" (as it will be known when it comes to release) is
part of the "Windows Vista" Product line, correct?

nm, I thought it was going to be called Vista Server, but I can't find my
original source offhand. I might be mistaken about the name.

MS has already said that Server will not be named "Vista Server." A
spokesman at a conference in the first half of 2006 did say the name would
conform to year-naming used in other server products. That should mean that
Longhorn Server will be named Windows Server 2008, since launch is scheduled
for the second half of 2007. Products released in the first half of a year
are named for the current year and products released in the second half are
named for the following year. Of course no official announcement has been
made and Marketing will decide.

As far as I am aware, it is not going to be called Vista Server, but even if
it were it still is a different product than Vista client. You had Windows
2000 Professional and Windows 2000 Server, but despite the similar name, the
server line is different. Some of the core OS components are shared, but
beyond that the features, target audience and usages are different so
comparing them doesn't make a lot of sense. MS treats them as separate
products.

I'll be a bit surprised if Longhorn Server is named Vista when it's
released.

Microsoft announced today that they will release a scaled down version of
their Longhorn Server targeted at the mobile server market. Based on
Windows Auto, the new product will be branded "CarHorn."

I would almost swear that I heard something a month or so ago that they had
announced the name to be Vista Server. Maybe I was dreaming.

No announcements made. The folks in TechBeta are still testing Longhorn
Server.
