vista email issue

I often email people on craigslist thru my windowsXP desk top about items for
sale but I can not now using my lap top with vista. The system suggested to
download Windows Live mail to email but it still don't work. What the heck
am I doing wrong?

When you click on an email link on a webpage, Vista will open the email
program that has been assigned to be the default program for "mailto:"
links.

This is normally Windows Mail on a Vista computer.

How do you normally send email?
 
It would be helpful if you told us what your preferred email method or service is.
Hotmail via the web, or something else?
