VIsta DVD Boot stops just before language selection screen

I have a system with an ASUS P5B mobo, 1501 BIOS (the latest non-beta one,
4x2GB Kingston DDR2 667, SATA 2 HDDs (not RAID) and an Asus EN7600GT PCI-E
(one only) display card. The system works fine under XPSP2.

However, when I boot from a Vista DVD for a clean install, the system stops
doing anything at the green drape effect screen just before the language
selection screen. When the green drape effect screen appears, it displays an
hourglass for about 10 seconds, then nothing but the cursor - no matter how
long I leave it. (I've tried for leaving it for an hour.

I have tried this with nothing but a new blank drive attached to the SATA
cable and the DVD drive attached to the IDE, and changed every BIOS setting
I can think of (including reset to default) but can't get the VISTA DVD to
get to the install now screen.

Thanks for any help anyone can give.

I had that once and one of your devices windows is not seeing, like a floppy
that the communications is plug in but not the power plug. Something is there
but vista is not detecting it.
