I recently upgraded from basic to home premium. I installed everything and
used the upgrade CD, now it says I need to activate my version of windows.
problem is I get the error that the product key can only be used for
upgrading not a clean intall- which i am not doing. Also my digital locker
assistant says that home premium is not downloadable- and that it was never
downloaded- problem here is that my digital locker does not give me the
option to re-download home premium or make a back up disk !!! can someone
help, because after a 2 hour phone call to MS tech support they couldn't
help me :0

The software that you download after you purchase the upgrade includes
a product key. This product key determines which edition of Windows Vista
that you can install from the disc.

You receive an error message when you try to activate Windows Vista after
you use a Windows Anytime Upgrade DVD to upgrade Windows Vista:

A list of Microsoft Knowledge Base articles is available to help you
troubleshoot error messages that you may receive when you use the
Windows Anytime Upgrade feature to upgrade Windows Vista
