Vista doesn't boot, no BIOS screen

I have seen many hard drive failures. In the majority of cases the computer
will post and tell you that the operating system can not be found. But, it
will post!

I KNOW THAT. You can completely disconnect the hard drive and the
system will still POST.

Malke said it was a hard drive: "From your description (and thanks for
being so thorough), it sounds like the hard drive has died... "

Peter Foldes agreed, saying: "Hard Drive is gone south." Yet he told
the OP to buy an enclosure and take the data off - off of a supposedly
DEAD drive.

I'm amazed.

At least the OP knows that getting the data off the drive before
handing the machine over to a tech is the way to go.

If you put the drive in the freezer for a few hours, it may work better.
