Vista Does Dot Detect all Harddrives

Hi,

I installed Vista 32 Bit today. The mainboard i use is an asus P5GDC-V
Deluxe. I have three harddrives installed but only two get dissplayed. The
missing one is a 232 gig HDD. I had the same problem get the disc detected as
I conected it to Windows XP. With The mainboard i got a support CD from asus
providing mass storage drivers which solved my problem

Now under Viats I can not even run the setup for the support CD and install
the mass storage driver since it says unsupported operating system. I was
hoping Microsoft fixes this comon problem but does not look like it. How can
i get that HDD accessable in vista?

thanks for help

Did you insert the CD during setup? When Vista first presents the screen
for choosing the drive to install on there is an option to load drivers in
the lower left hand corner. Load the drivers for the additional disk at
this time and it should work. Use this even though you will not install the
OS to that disk. Has worked for me in the past for a RAID controller.

HOW can you load drivers IF there are no drivers for vista yet????
I never used any"drivers"for my hard drives when I installed RC1 or RC2.

Hi,

well i am not really sure but i think the solution came really with SP2 for
XP those days. Does no one else use installation disks bigger then 100 megs
and get the same issue with those sized disks?

I used the Win XP drivers during install of both 32 and 64 bits
respectively. Vista had no problem installing them or running with them.
Maybe I was lucky. The worst that could happen to him is that it doesn't
work for his drivers, if it does work then he has use of his third drive.

Hi Mate,

sorry this is not clear to me. What do you mean u used th windows XP drivers
during install. I think the drivers for the large disk came with SP1 for XP.
Can you assist and thanks for help again

Alex,

I have an onboard Adaptec Host RAID controller. I was able to use the XP
drivers (on floppy, USB drive, or CD) during the install process so that
Vista would see the attached drives.

On the screen where Vista presents your available hard drives for
installation there is a link in the lower left hand corner for "load
drivers". I inserted my driver media, pointed Vista to the floppy and it
loaded the drivers making the hard drives available.

Sounds like you might need to extract the drivers from the install CD you
have and put them on a floppy or other device so Vista can load them during
this portion of the install. I don't think the install exe on the CD will
be able to run during this part of installing Vista. Vista just wants to
find an appropriate inf file and\or the drivers to load.

Hope this helps.
