Vista + disappearing files & folders

ok, something very weird has been happening. Got a few XP boxes on a
LAN and just included a Vista machine. Sharing files and working
through the LAN has been good. Just had 1 Word Document die. Corrupted
beyond repair. Never had this happen before Vista. The file was shared
between Vista + Office 2007 & XP + Office 2002.

Then today, a complete folder disappeared along with some files in a
shared folder on teh Vista machine. This could be some hacker's work
but based on the files & folder that disappeared, they all have been
shared (open, saved, clolse) between an XP machine and a Vista
machine. This has not happened with all files that have been shared /
used. Just a handful of files & an entire folder (mostly .html files).
Disappear in this case means it no longer exist even on the machine
where files were being saved to.

Never had an issue when all machines were XP based. Added Vista and
got this? Any thoughts? In a little bit of a panic mode here.

What could have caused this?

Personally, I would temporarily remove the Vista machine and see if the
problem continues. If the problem clears up and you have no more file
losses and corruption, than it would have to be a problem with the Vista
machine, at which point, you would have to decide if you want to
downgrade the machine to XP. You may not find another solution here.

What makes you think it was Vista-related if Office 2007 was also never used
before?

In addition to adding Vista/Office 2007 you also added a new Vista/Office
2007 user to the mix. My bet is on user error, as cliché-ish as that sounds.

Did you install Vista yourself? Was Vista installed on a filesystem
which was formatted by XP, perhaps?
