don't want Vista defragging all over the place.

LOL!

After reading through these posts it appeared as if Vista simply
defrags on its own, automatically. I wouldn't have wanted it to touch
the hard drive that hosts XP. Aparently that is not the case.

I turn mine off (open the defrag tool and uncheck the box for running it

Personally, I think it is BS that it is automatically turned on. I was
unable to find the degfrag tool under Accessories or Maintenance, the
two places where it either used to be or where I expected it. Using
the Start Menu search I found it and turned it off. Not sure why MS
hides the defragger like this from the user. It's a bit of a mystery
to me why MS would move to a less transparent solution, rather than
make the old degragger more useful, particularly in the Ultimate
version, which is (as far as I perceive) geared towards high-end users
that prefer to customize how they want their OS to work. I guess in
the home editions I would expect this kind of hidden automation from
the user, but...oh well!

Dud...you're just now realizing that fact?
Get out of your moms basement. There is sunlight outside and it won't
melt you.
