vista defrag stuck

when i ask it to defrag (Vista), it starts and never quits. little circle
just keeps on rotating happily. left it going a couple of times for, say, 10
hours maybe. since it doesn't show percentages anymore (or I can't find them)
not sure where we are getting hung up. I've done lots of video editing and
having some problems lately in those programs so think I really need a good
defragment...or I at least need to see if fragmentation might be the cause
(if there is somewhere I can look to determine this please let me know...if
not fragmented then problem is probably with video programs, but how do you
tell in Vista..ahhhh)

You are assuming that defrag is having some problem, but no error is in
Event Viewer? Defrag is designed to be good (and reliable), rather than
fast, and to operate in the background. The lack of feedback is by design,
and expected behavior, for that very reason. If you wanted to check on hard
drive performance and efficiency, a diagnostic app designed for your hard
drive would serve you much better.

sorry but I have a couple of questions about your response. I am assuming
defrag is having problems because it never tells me that defrag is complete,
which I presume it is still supposed to do even in Vista. Is this correct?
Shouldn't it at some point say it is done? Also, what sort of diagnostic app
are you talking about? I do want to check on performance/efficiency, but
mainly I need to see if fragmentation is causing the issues with my video
editing application (been doing a lot with some very large files), and in the
past fragmentation has been a problem after lots of editing, deleting, moving
files...etc. I opened event viewer and don't see any "errors" but not really
sure where I am supposed to be looking...thanks and sorry I am sorta behind
the game on this. Just used to defragmenting and restarting to get this to
work better.

I am also having problems when trying to use the defrag. It only happens on
my laptop and not to my PC. Both are similar and are used for various
things. When mine freezes it won't let me out of it without manually
powering down. I have left it on for 3 days the last time I tried it. Just
keeps going, but crashes if I try to cancel, or restart the computer, or open
the task manager. If you find a solution please forward it to me as I will
do the same for you.

Even if you hard drives are badly fragmented it should never take 3
days. Chances are it is getting hung up due to some file system
corruption. Since NTFS is self-repairing it almost always can repair
itself. Run chkdsk with the fix errors switch on. To do that go to
Windows Explorer, begin at your C drive, right click, properties,
tools, under error checking then follow through with each of your hard
drives. Be aware it will ask to schedule for C since it can't repair
while Windows is running. It will then do it next time you boot. You
will see a pale blue screen. This is NOT the dreaded Blue Screen of
Death. That is dark blue.

You can run you little pus*y witch, but you can't hide. Pull your tampon
out ho and get ready for some Bar-B-Q. I am going to ram your tampon and
the Bar-B-Q down throat.
