Has anyone found a patch for the vista cursor prompt to stop it from jumping
all over the page? This is driving me nuts because I use my laptop for a lot
of word processing applications.

Go to your laptop mftr.'s website and download/install drivers for Vista
for your video and touchpad. If you upgraded to Vista on this laptop,
then you will need drivers for the rest of your hardware too,
particularly the chipset, and any laptop-specific software provided.

What mouse are you using with your laptop (USB? Touchpad? Both?). If Vista
wasn't pre-installed on your computer, you may need to update your touchpad
driver to one that is Vista compatible.

Dean I have a wireless mouse however, I unplugged it and actually typed one
character at a time making sure not to touch the mouse pad and it did the
same thing.

You shouldn't have that issue, even if using both a USB and a touchpad mouse
at the same time. (My question in my previous post was to see if your
touchpad was enabled. Apparently, it is.) Are you using a Vista compatible
touchpad driver? Your touchpad driver is active, even if you aren't
touching it. If the driver is a generic PS/2 driver from Microsoft, or is a
driver meant for XP, you may not have the functionality your laptop needs to
run correctly (look in Device Manager, under "Mice and other pointing
devices", to determine the driver). If you need help locating the download
for a Vista driver, post your computer make and model number, and someone
may be able to help you find it.

This is a brand new laptop with vista pre-installed. It is a Gateway mt3705.

For specific drivers for your model laptop, go here and enter the Serial
Number:

http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/dlcenter.asp?Tab=My

However, to me "brand new" plus the problems you describe equals "call
tech support". While Vista isn't in widespread use where I live, I do
have a number of clients with it on new laptops (no Gateways though).
None of them exhibit the behavior you describe, so this is not a Vista
issue on laptops. It's something wrong with your Gateway and could be
bad drivers (for which Gateway is responsible) or even bad hardware.
Call Gateway.

Someone in another post just indicated that they had this problem, quoting,
"As I type the cursor will jump around to another place", and that they
turned off their touchpad's tapping feature in Control Panel > Mouse
Properties, and that that solved their problem. You could try that, or try
decreasing the tapping sensitivity.

I have a brand new Dell laptop M1210. Came with Vista Premium and I have
this problem as well.
Has anybody out there talked to MS or Dell tech support?
