Vista Home Premium Sp1

I have a corrrupt mapi32.dll, caused by Avira Premium anti virus, this is preventing Outlook 2003 from opening.
The obvious solution is to delete mapi32.dll and let Outlook create a new one.
I am logged on as an administrator but Vista does not allow me to delete or rename this file.
I have tried:-
Un installing Avira Premium, run System restore, re installing Outlook 2003 - no joy.
Using cmd as admin to 'takeown' and the 'icacls' to grant access rights to mapi32.dll, 'takeown' reports success but 'icacls' always reports 'bad parameter' & fails.

I have tried to get help from Avira but have heard nothing.

If anyone has any ideas of how to fix this I would be grateful.

Thanks

welcome to PCR

Try and rename both mapi32.dll AND msmapi32.dll to .bad files, then start outlook, it should do a setup process for a minute, and load.

Thank you for your response.

Vista will allow me to look at the mapi32.dll and thats all. No rename, move or delete.
