Vista Business fax issues

Guest

Hi,

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Scan and Fax seems to be severley messed up on my PC. I am running Vista
Business as a standalone PC. I tried to use fax for the first time today and
came up against several 'brick walls'.

I could not send because the system gave me some message about RPC
(unfortunately I cannot remember the full message and cannot reproduce now).
So I found a ms article that said to delete the account and set it up again,
which I did. Afetr deleteing I was unable to set up the account 'The
mentioned fax server is not available'.

I have tried to uninstall the fax and scan component before trying to fix by
re-installtion but this results in 'An error has occurred. Not all of the
features were successfully changed'

Are you using an analog fax modem that is on the VHCL? Why is WFS asking for
a fax server if you are on a standalone PC? List the steps you are using to
configure your fax account.

Hello Russ,

I am using a USR 56k PCI modem that was autodetected by Vista setup.

If I open fax and scan and go to Tools/Fax Accounts/Add I get a box where I
select connect to a fax modem, then when I give that modem a name (any name)
I get

'The mentioned fax server is not available'

I am definitely not clicking the 'connect to a fax server on my network'
option.

It would appear that something is wrong with your modem setup. You should
not be giving the modem a name. It should appear in the dialog box for you
to select. That modem has worked fine for me.

I am getting the exact same issues and on a Toshiba laptop with built in
modem.
Also keep getting messages that fax cover pages are not available. I don't
want a fax cover page.

I am at the end of my tether as this Vista is amateurish bad incomplete
garbage.
No English English as in real English spell checker in Windows Mail and
cannot believe the problems with crashes.

Thankfully bought a laptop with both WindowsXP and Vista license and not far
off installing XP it works and lets me do what I want and not lock me out
with garbage DEP and all the garbage in Vista. Vista should never have been
dumped into the market place as it is about half ready garbage.

All Microsoft Fax products have notoriously outdated Class 1 code in their
fax driver which creates incompatibility with many common modems. Windows XP
uses the same driver as Vista. You will find no improvement unless it is by
mere chance.
