Problems setting up Fax Account in Windows Vista Ultimate

A

ashforma

I have Windows VISTA Ultimate. I have a recognised fax modem installed. I
have verified VISTA can test and validate it is working.

When I try to set up a Fax Account - Fax and Scan / Tools / Fax Accounts /
Add / Connect to a fax modem / Chose a Modem Name - no matter what I enter in
this field, I get an error message "The mentioned fax server is not
available. Please correct the server name and try again"

Can you suggest a solution?

Just because Vista can recognize your modem does not mean it is a fax modem
that supports Class 1 or Class 2 and is on the VHCL. Verify that it is.

Russ,

Modem is Conexant HDAUDIO Soft Data Fax Modem with SmartCP
Driver Update SP36392 HP released it 2007-07-30

This seems to be the modem installed in HP Pavilion laptops.

It is on COM3, it passes the windows device manager test.

It appears to be a 56k fax data modem, I believe it is class 1

FYI, UAC is disabled; I am the administrator of the system.

So answer my question. Or did you expect me to check the VHCL for you?

The verification report does not look encouraging, neither does the fact
that it's not certified.

So this is teh end of the line? not much I can do about it as it is a laptop
and HP sell it as a VISTA certified machine.

I'll Pass this onto HP.

Thanks for trying.

I'd also try opening an incident with Microsoft since they did certify the
modem as "working."
