Hello. I was wondering if anyone has done the following.
In Windows XP, you run the Backup Program. Great.

Later, the XP computer dies, and you buy a new computer with Windows Vista.

You run Vista's version of Backup, and try to restore your data.

Does this work?

I remember this was a problem a few years ago where you lost your data by
upgrading.
I just don't trust Microsoft, so I'm expecting the worst.

TIA.

Thanks for the link! I had a hard time finding anything.

I see that it says in part...

"... nor does it (Vista) include any means of restoring any backups other
than the ones that were created by it."

I knew it!!
Damn Microsoft! I knew I couldn't trust them with my data.
Now I hate Vista also, and I don't even own it yet.

I'll have to look for a better backup solution elsewhere.

Thanks again. :>~

I'm having a hard time finding a good backup program.
I'm not impressed with anything I've found so far.

If you have a copy of Windows XP, you could install Windows XP Ntbackup on
Windows Vista.
Here is one web site I found that explains the steps to do so...

Acronis is the best.

Thank you very much for the input. Do you really like Acronis?

I was looking at that program again. I tried that program a while ago, and
I had nothing but problems with that program.

It looked like a great program because it would automatically increment
backup jobs, and start renumbering them after some many backups. I thought
this was great, as no others did this.

BUT…it would overwrite the main Backup!! I thought this was the stupidest
thing I ever heard of.

So, for a short while, one would have no valid backup in case computer
crashed during main backup. !@#$

Anyway, I got a new copy of the program just yesterday, and installed the
update from the web.

The update deleted the product serial number, so now I can’t use it. That
product gave me too many headaches in the past, and I can see it doing the
same thing now.

Looking at the bug fixes makes me worried to use this product also.

You really like it?

Thanks for your feedback.
