Vista and UK ISP

I bought new computer with Vista at the weekend. The issue being that my
broadband ISP (Tiscali) does not support Vista and has no date for when they
will be able to support. I have been looking into a new broadband ISP but
can't find out which do support Vista in the UK. Does anyone know?

Thanks

What do you mean by "support Vista"? Are you talking Broadband (Cable)
or ADSL (BT line)? And are you connecting via a USB modem or an
ethernet modem/router?

I use Zen Internet and have never had any problems with Vista "support".

How are you connecting? If its ADSL or Ethernet then chances are it works
right out of the box, even most USB modems work fine.

Don't worry about it. What they mean is if you phone up with a problem with
your connection or whatever, then they cannot offer you support as they have
failed to train their helpdesk staff on how to use Vista.
It will not affect your connection whatsoever.
In the meantime feel free to leave Tiscali anyway lol

What does that mean...?

It is basically related to the fact that a number of ADSL providers
ship a CD with their own preconfigured set of bits on such as a setup
program, modem drivers, configuration for IE or other browser etc.
Great for a none technical users to setup their broadband with a
couple of clicks and typing in the password and user name they have
been assigned.
However, many of these vendor provided CDs are not supported on Vista
yet (drivers, IE config etc etc).

So the poster will either have to manually set up their
modem/router/connection or if they are not technically savvy enough
either switch providers or wait.

Before you switch ISPs, I would try a couple of things.

(1) Get the make of your modem and visit the manufacturer's site. They may
have produced a vista compatible driver that you can download.

(2) Try the software you used with XP, or whatever your previous operating
system was. It may work.

Even if Tiscali doesn't officially 'support' Vista yet, you may still be
able to configure things manually.

That said, I'm still waiting for a Vista compatible driver for my own modem
[I currently connect via network], so you're not the only one. Switching
ISPs may not be the best solution.

Throw your modem where it belongs, in the bin.

No-one should connect to an always-on fast ADSL or DSL service through
anything other than a modem/router.

lol

Actually what I wrote wasn't strictly the whole story. I am connecting using
that modem, but Vista is currently in a virtual machine, which connects via
'network' to the host operating system on the same computer.

We don't support it means "We haven't gotten around to training our
call-centre staff about Vista and how to reboot several times or screw up
their TCP/IP settings while we actually fix the issue."

The only problem could be if you had an ADSL modem connected directly to
your PC and requiring drivers - if you have a stand-alone ADSL Router then
it will work.

I use Virgin. I joined about 2 years ago, and the CD that they supplied when
i first joined works fine with Vista.

Stuart it is worth remembering that a number of users here are none
technical and rely on the automatic config CDs supplied by ISPs to do
a simple install for them. There is more to setting up a ADSL
connection then just a driver for the ADSL modem. These CDs hide
those additional processes from end users and configure their PCs for
easy use i.e. a simple Connect to Internet icon or a file to configure
their browser etc.
So while you or I are happy to change our VPI/VCI settings and default
DNS servers etc - many aren't
