Vista and Samba 3.0.28

Hello all,

I have a Sun box which runs Samba 3.0.28a as a member server in a Windows
2003 Domain. We do folder redirectionusing group policy to this Samba server
which acts as users home directory server. Folder redirection works fime, but
somehow Vista documents folder is renamed to "homes". How in the world could
this happen?

Thanks

You are getting further than I did. But I don't have a domain. Using
workgroups I have yet to get Vista not-so-Premium to work with it.

Will be watching this thread closely.

What is it renamed from, "Documents"? It sounds to me like it's the Sun box
that is doing the renaming since "homes" is standard *nix terminology when
using Samba. And why would using "homes" be a problem anyway? If you want
to use "Documents" as the directory label, make a "Documents" directory for
Samba sharing:

/homes/username/Documents

Disclaimer - I am experienced with Linux and not Solaris, so your Sun box
may act differently than my Linux boxen.

By default Vista call "My documents", Documents. We redirect users documents
to users home directory located on a Samba server. On Vista, somehow the
naming "Documents" appear as "homes" which is very odd and I am positive just
a folder redirection group policy will not rename Microsoft "Documents" to
"Homes"

thanks

Well yes, that's what you said in your first post. And that's why I said the
renaming is probably coming from the Solaris box. And that's why I asked
you why this was a problem.

Have you tried asking this in a Samba/Solaris newsgroup? Because I really do
think that would be a good venue since none of the Vista Documents
directories that my partner and I have redirected for users in various
domains - admittedly to servers running MS Server 2003 RC2 or SBS 2003 and
not Solaris - exhibit that behavior.

Malke.
